Maisie had three daughters, Susan, Diane and Gillian. Birthdays and Christmases were wonderful times. Homemade food and often handmade clothes or toys. She worked hard; washing, cleaning, cooking. She read stories to her children and taught them sewing and knitting. She made the best puddings and cakes. She loved having her children home during the summer holidays. She would take them out in the afternoons to the park or the beach, depending on the weather. It was a long walk from the house to the beach and for the children it sometimes seemed they would never get there but when they turned the corner of a certain road they could all hear the sounds of children and people on the beach and smell the sea.

As her 2 youngest children became teenagers and went to the youth club her husband ran, Maisie decided 'If you can't beat them better join them' she helped her husband and the other leaders out at the youth club. She was good at talking to the young people and never afraid to stop any trouble brewing amongst the young ones.

As her own children were growing up and going their own different ways, Maisie did some part time jobs, cleaning the church in Southsea and later as a dinner lady at what was called then Somers' Town school. She enjoyed being with the children and made friends with the other ladies, who she kept in touch with afterwards. She recalled one little boy coming to her complaining some of the others were calling him names, she told him to tell his teacher when he got back to class, but, added we all get called names sometimes especially when we a children. The little boy made a remark which amused her, he said "Did they use to call you four eyes?"

Maisie did the same for her two grandsons and looked after them during the school holidays. Her first grandson, Geoff was born in 1970 and her second grandson, Daniel was born in 1987. She was always singing songs, sometimes made up ones. One of her grandson's used to say "Is that a real song, Nan, or a made up one?" Maisie was very proud of her grandson Dan and his musical achievements, she especially loved to watch him marching in the Boys' Brigade Band.

In 1981, after having lived in the same house in Southsea for the whole of her married life they uprooted and moved to just outside of Portsmouth, over the hill to Widley. Maisie helped John with some of the alterations, becoming the 'labourer'! She sorted the garden which although not huge was non the less very over grown. After tackling an overgrown bush she met her neighbour at the back who said 'oh you've managed to break through at last'. She made friends with the elderly lady and they often chatted together.

Maisie was very proud when her grandson, Geoff got into Portsmouth university and gained his degree in electrical engineering.
